The «Bench sculpture» is Zanine Caldas’ iconic work. Sculpted out of a single block of wood, not only is it a technical prowess but it also beautifully sums up the artist’s naturalistic inspiration. Lifelong advocate agains deforestation, he recuperated cut down, unwanted trees of the Amazon jungle to create furniture pieces including ours. Out of his entire body of work the « Bench sculpture » is the best known and also the rarest.

Formerly in the collection of Madame Y, from her villa designed by José Zanin Caldas in Loatinga, Rio de Janeiro.
